German for University Students:
Preparation for university studies in Germany
Before foreign students can commence their studies at a German university, they have to prove that
meet the formal conditions for admittance to studies in Germany, and that their German
language skills are good enough for the purposes of study.
To be able to study at a German university, students must hold a higher education entrance qualification (school leaving certificate or similar qualification).
If this qualification is regarded as equivalent to the German higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, etc.), they can be admitted directly to their chosen degree course.
University Application Deadline
The deadlines for university application are usually July 15 th and January 15th.
Since most of the German universities require the "German Language Certificates" for your application, you should have a good knowledge of German until these dates.
(at least Upper-Intermediate "Mittelstufe 2" )
If you don't have any knowledge of German, it is better to start studying German 8 months to one year prior to your application deadline.
If you already have some knowledge of German, you can start 2 to 8 months prior to the closing date, depending on your level.
